Reaction in Green Projects

The world as of today is recovering from the biggest problem, which is the financial crisis that was started few years ago. And this problem had a great effect to those countries that have great financial needs for its people and government. There is also a problem that has been always a problem before the world’s financial crisis appears. It’s the heating of the earth’s temperature because of the different machine, factory, pollution and etc. called global warming. It has been said that because of us why this global warming is happening. Humans created different technology that causes small problems, small problems like waste material in a factory that sooner became a large problem. This machines or waste materials produce harmful gases that are trap in earth’s atmosphere and it is heating the earth to more than its normal. Today every country goes for the alternative energy resources that can prevent global warming. Alternative energy resources is the solution for preventing the earth’s temperature rising. Energy resources are one of the needs of a country to maintain its businesses that are present in it. And because of the global warming many countries now are considering a machine/product that are eco-friendly and can’t contribute to global warming. Businesses now are considering these facts and develop projects that could reduce the pollution, reduce fossil fuel consumption and others that can effect the environment. Many of the project managers now called it “Green Project”. And as what I have read in the article that our facilitator assigned to us to read the Solar Farms. I have read that the focus of the project managers now are projects that are environmentally friendly. In the article the solar farm project is not yet implemented because it has been said that according to their government agriculture policy that farms with the class 1, 2, and 3 soils are not suitable for purposes other that agriculture. Solar farms fall into “Green” class of project because they reduce dependency on electricity generated by plants that uses fossil fuels. I ask my self y does the project want to be in soils with class 1, 2, and 3. In fact Canada is a country that has many farms according to Tyler Hamilton’s article. But as what the article said that projects are always influenced by stakeholders who are not customers, clients, sponsors, or member of the project team. Their considerations are taken into account in any case.

Assignment 4

After reading the commencement address of Mr. Steve Jobs I take a little time to reflect or realize the different points that Mr. Steve said in his address. In the first story in his address which is connecting the dots he example the time when he dropped the subjects that gave him no interest with and enrolled in a calligraphy class and starting to learn how to
do it.And when they developed the first Macintosh computer it all come back and designed in all into Mac. I realized that not only the things that was happened to us that we must
remember, but we must also learn from it. Because we don't know what will be in the future, we might recall the different happenings in life and get great ideas on in. I like we
he said " YOU CANNOT CONNECT THE DOTS FORWARD ".
In the second part about love and loss he almost lost all he love, but he still gets a lesson to what had happened to him. And he start a new begging, for it tells me that when you
FALL don't loss hope, because sometimes falling from a great success can help us realize that we are human and we can also get some rest and think about what is really wrong.
Because in life not all the things that we wanted will be given to us.
In the last part about death we all know is DEATH is the only thing that will end not only our lives but also our dreams.
Stay Hungry Stay foolish..

Assignment 3

My purpose in life?

As I read some of the replies of my classmates in this thread, I learned
many things about them. I will not ask them because I think they've answer
it honestly and truthfully. And I somehow gets what kind of person they really
are or what are the reasons behind their hard-work in school. Why I read
some replies? because as of now, I mean right now that I'm typing my reply
I really don't know yet whats my purpose in life. But somehow there is one
thing that comes first in my mind that is
"to do whats God has planned for me"
because I believe in that God plans for me are for my own good. And as
of now I'm a student and I think my purpose is to graduate in this course and
maybe be a Technopreneur and help my Family.
And to do something that is GREAT that even I myself can't imagine by obeying
God's plan and serve Him.

Assignment 2: Reflection

Your reflections/insights on your personal traits test

My reflection on personality test?

Being enrolled in this subject IT-Elective (technoprenuership) is one of the great things that happen in my life. I think that technoprenuership is one of the things that can help me to develop my skills and abilities and help me to know more about myself because of the some things that we took up in this subject. I never realize that being enrolled in this subject is a great privilege and a great chance to know that this subject is one of the parts or components that BSIT student should take. When I was in high school I really don’t know what course will I take cause that time my mind didn’t thinks a lot about my future, what will I be, and my dreams(ahm I have lots of dreams but not being an Information Technology Student in University of Southeastern Philippines or USEP). I never thought that being a college student will be tough and hard, like what I’ve heard before in some of the persons I know.
As a student like me, we encounter lots of lots of people with different personalities and we socialize with them even though some are not compatible to us. There are some unpredictable, angry type, passive type and other type of persons. So it came to my mind what really mean if we say personal traits. But I found out that Personalities are distinctive, each of us behaves accordingly to certain situation in distinct patterns. Humans are finely tuned to observe these behavior patterns of acquaintances and to notice behavior differences among people. As I surf to the net I found out that there are a big five personality factors that control a person’s character according to studies. The following are the big five personality factors:

Openness: involves active imagination, aesthetic sensitivity, attentiveness to inner feelings, preference for variety, and intellectual curiosity. This area consists of qualities like being creativeness and intuitive and having open imagination. Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openness_to_experience

In this matter I can say that I have a wide imagination because there are so many things that are running in my head if someone opens a topic and I almost got being talkative. But having a creative mind that a big problem of mine, even in designing or drawing in old days I only made a normal or a good drawing because I really don’t have this creative mind. In this area I think I got 50 over 100 but I still have the plan to improve whatever things that I’m not good to. In relation to being a technopreneur, as what I’ve learned that technopreneur is a risk taker. But before we take the risk we must have all the research and calculate all the possibilities so that on every result of every risk we are ready.

Conscientiousness: is the trait of being painstaking and careful, or the quality of acting according to the dictates of one's conscience. It includes such elements as self-discipline, carefulness, thoroughness, organization, deliberation (the tendency to think carefully before acting), and need for achievement. It is an aspect of what has traditionally been called character. Conscientious individuals are generally hard working and reliable. When taken to an extreme, they may also be workaholics, perfectionists, and compulsive in their behavior. People who are low on conscientiousness are not necessarily lazy or immoral, but they tend to be more laid back, less goal oriented, and less driven by success.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscientiousness

Seeing the words or components of conscientious above, I know I’m the fifty-fifty mode again. Back in the old days my parents would always say to be careful in whatever I do or I will do. Specially in borrowing things of others, they said that being careful to the things that you borrowed is also a sign of respect or trust to the on owner as he/she entrusted you the things that you borrowed. And in self-discipline I’m surely lacking of it. Because I didn’t almost discipline my self like waking up at 7:00 o’clock in the morning I oath to myself that I must wake up in that time but sadly I ended waking up 8 or 9 sometimes 10 am in the morning. And relation to being a technopreneur, it is very important to be carefully thinks what you will do before deciding to do it.

Extraversion: tend to be gregarious, assertive, and interested in seeking out excitement. They tend to think out loud and cannot solve things in their heads as well as introverts. You're talkative and don't mind being the centre of attention. Being alone isn't your favorite activity; in fact, the more the merrier.
Source: http://psychology.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_big_five_personality_traits
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraversion

As I try to understand the words above as a gregarious I would say maybe but not all the time because I want to have many friends but not in a way that I force them to be my friend. Being talkative I will say yes because if I have friend with me I want to talk with him/her I don’t want a silent mode between me and my friend. As to being a technopreneur, being an energetic and talkative is I think a great factor that would be a big help in building a relationship with customers. But being interested in seeking out excitements I think its kind of weather type. It depends in the situation that I’m on, because sometimes a want to wait than to pursue one thing.

Agreeableness: is a tendency to be pleasant and accommodating in social situations. In contemporary personality psychology, agreeableness is one of the five major dimensions of personality structure, reflecting individual differences in concern for cooperation and social harmony. People who score high on this dimension are empathetic, considerate, friendly, generous, and helpful. They also have an optimistic view of human nature. They tend to believe that most people are honest, decent, and trustworthy.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agreeableness

Seeing the components of one of the big five traits I would say yes because back then I always think of the difference of personalities to another and how am I suppose to deal with them that they will feel ok when they are with me. In relation in being a technoprenuer, he / she must know the differences of his / her employee so that he / she will manage them in a good way. In case of a time that you unintentionally hurt them he / she must have a way to bring and cheer them up back to their duties.

Neuroticism: It is an enduring tendency to experience negative emotional states. Individuals who score high on neuroticism are more likely than the average to experience such feelings as anxiety, anger, guilt, and depressed mood. They respond more poorly to environmental stress, and are more likely to interpret ordinary situations as threatening, and minor frustrations as hopelessly difficult. They are often self-conscious and shy, and they may have trouble controlling urges and delaying gratification. Neuroticism is associated with low emotional intelligence, which involves emotional regulation, motivation, and interpersonal skills.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroticism
In connection to being a technoprenuer, having a business and managing it one must have a great control of his/her anxiety and temper. He must act according to the situation that he/she in one.

Before I put my reflection or insights into words about the test that has given to us by our facilitator Mr. Randy Gamboa last Saturday August 14, 2010 at the Lab 1 room. There are questions already coming up in my mind even before our facilitator gave the test like, what are the questions or type of question will be given to us, is this test really help us to know whither we already possess the traits of a technoprenuer, what will be the results of the test, and some more. But some of the questions were answered. The test that we had taken was a personal traits test or personality test which would determine if a person is a business minded or shall I say if a person has the traits of a technoprenuer. The test is answerable only by letters ‘ a ’ and ‘ b ’ and it’s a series of thirty two ( 32 ) questions or items and we must decide which of the given examples in each number will describes us best. All I did is just answer the questions by choosing the best answer that describes me, honestly. In what way ? By following what’s in my mind thinks the best answer and cheating the test never comes in my mind because I think it cannot help to understand my self. While answering I noticed that almost all the choices in each number has no connection to the other ( the a and b ). Example in the letter ‘ a ‘ it talks about relationship to a friend or family in ‘ b ‘ it talks about will I go to the other company cause there the salary is much greater, it has no connection at all. And I noticed also in some questions in the said personality test or personal traits test that it is really different from the choices ‘ a ‘ and ‘ b ‘ like in ‘ a ‘ it is a scene while in be it is a question. It takes time for me to answer some of the items because I think of it repeatedly and maybe some items I answered it two ( 2 ) to three ( 3 ) minutes cause I want to answered it with no doubts in my mind. I feel confident about my answers in each items and I’m ok in whatever results I have.

And after all of us finished answered the test, our facilitator said to us that we must score our own test by showing us or providing us on how we should score our selves. Each letter ( the letters a and b ) that we had chosen in each numbers has a corresponding points, like 1 ( one ) , 2 ( two ), and zero ( 0 ). It depends on the question, I noticed that I got some zeros, I thought I will not get zero in some of the numbers because in numbers 1 – 15 if I could still remember I didn’t get zero , I summed it all and I got forty points ( 40 ) yehey! ! ! ! !. And after we summed up our points our facilitator announce the interpretation of results that we got, 0 – 25 “ not entrepreneurial ”, 26 - 36 “ neutral “, 37 – 47 “ SOMEWHAT ENTREPRENEURIAL “ and lastly 48+ “ very entrepreneurial “.

After hearing the results from our facilitator, I looked into my paper seeing the score of forty ( 40 ) and in my mind I said “ is this my score ? “ how come I belong to that result. It means that I am capable of becoming an entrepreneur or a technopreneur in the near future, that I can be a business man and create my own business and can help many people by giving them job in my business or maybe I can be a technopreneur in the country that will mark in history. I can’t believe at first cause I really thought that I don’t have the traits of an entrepreneur. Even though the results of the said test is not the only criterion that we can say that we can become a good entrepreneur or technopreneur. But for me and it gives hope that someday I will be in business world and will have the things that are present only in business. That I may become rich and gain money that will help me and my family in the future. As what our facilitator said and I have known, there is also IQ test ( IQ means Intelligence Quotient ) , EQ test ( EQ means Emotional Quotient ) and AQ ( AQ means Adversity Quotient ) and more that compromise to our success or failure in life. So meaning the test that we had last 14th of August 2010 was like a partial fulfillment for me, as we know that test is not the only test that we must have in order for us to say that we have a chance to be a good entrepreneur. For me having a good personality in business is not enough or not the only needed factor to be successful, a person must have also emotional stability and intelligence.

Assignment . . .

1.) What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?

Steve Jobs is just like us, humans. And as humans we face different challenges in our individual lives. Challenges that will make us a successful or unsuccessful, or ether a winner or loser. Some of us view success in what we have like power, wealth, or fame. This isn’t the true success, some of the most enduring and satisfying forms of success have nothing do with acquiring power, wealth, or fame. Success is what you make it. Failure is also a part of our life. This isn’t easy to accept especially to those people who are competitive but we have to face it bravely. As humans it is our capacity which makes us able to bear the high tide and low tide in our life. But as I live in this world I have learned that “a winner never quit” and I myself is a witness to the different person who never quit and now is a successful person. As I’ve watched the movie "PIRATES OF THE SILCON VALLEY” twice so that I will truly understand the different scene in the movie. And as I have finished the movie I realized that success and failure will always be a partner.

Factors that contributed to the success of Steve Jobs:

Great Interpersonal Skills:
“Interpersonal skills are the skills that a person uses to interact with other people. Interpersonal skills are sometimes also referred to as people skills or communication skills. Interpersonal skills involve using skills such as active listening and tone of voice, they include delegation and leadership.”
- Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpersonal_skills

Steve Jobs as I saw in the movie, he has this skills and I think this skills is a gift or it’s inborn, not all people have this skills and Steve Jobs uses his skills and develop it more. He is also a great leader to his company, and as a leader he led and inspires his employee to their best for the better of the APPLE Computers. Steve Jobs even before he became billionaire, as what Steve Wozniak said in the movie “I was never any good in talking in those days, but STEVE? He was AMAZING. . . “And as a technopreneur, he/she must have this kind of skills.

[b]HARD WORKING
Many of us didn’t want to be in a position that does hard things; sometimes we want the easy one to be ours. Some of us thinks “why would I put myself in that position if he can do that” or ”Why would I pick the hard one if they want me to do the easy one” . If we set our mind in this way, we cannot get to the goal we want in our lives. I believe that doing things which are challenging will discover your full potential and gain more ideas and capabilities to do much better the last time you do it. Like what Steve and Wozniak did by creating a machine which is computers and work hard to build much better machine.
“You’ll never succeed in idealizing hard work. Before you can dig mother earth you’ve got to take off your jacket. The harder a man works, at brute labor, the thinner his idealism, the darker his mind.”
D. H. Lawrence.

OPTIMISTIC
Thinking positively in the things or situations even it is critical is one of the attitude that must have by a technoprenuer or a businessman. Steve is optimistic that Apple computers will not be common machine, but a machine that will change or affect the life of people in the world.
Innovations:
I think Jobs is also having a creative mind. By the demand for innovation Steve is always doing the best he can with his team to search more, analyze more, and create new products that will be the next big thing in APPLE

Factors that contributed to the failure of Steve Jobs:
ATTITUDE:
As what I’ve saw in the movie Steve has these moody attitude or shall we say attitude disorder. When the time APPLE has boom and already known in the world, Steve also have changes in his attitudes toward his employee. He became unpredictable and screwed his employee in some scene in the movie. He is also forced his employee more than 8 hours and his dealing with his employee like his servants or slave.
Perfectionist:
As Steve dream to wipe out IBM, he work hard with Wozniak and when the time Apple grow Steve that time has this attitude disorder, and as his career is booming he wants to see things perfectly in his company. Like in a scene in the movie when they interview an applicant, he questioned the guy in a way that it is so personal to the side of the applicant. To be a perfectionist is good but as what they’ve said “everything that is too much is bad”, and I’m so agree with that.
When he don’t know what he truly wants:
By the time Steve Jobs launched the Macintosh, the company divided into two (2), I don’t know what’s going to his mind that time why he created Macintosh while Apple is still in the company. And when they have party in the beach and when they drink with the President of Apple that time John Sculley, they ask him why he did not give money to his daughter even though he can, he said “I don’t know”, It came to my mind that he really don’t know what he what’s in that time.

Carelessness:
Steve in that time let Bill Gates work in APPLE, and Bill almost know all the stuff in the APPLE and silently building his own Operating System named “WINDOWS”. His careless in the sense he didn’t get the sympathy of his people. And he doesn’t know what his employee feels at him or the board members look at him and because of his actions and performance John Sculley fired Mr. Steve Jobs.

2.) How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?

First thing first, when I first saw the word TECHNOPRENUERSHIP it was a kind of riddle in my mind on what is this, what are the things we will do in this subject, or does this subject really matters, it sounds like ENTREPRENEUR what is their defferences. So I do my little google or surfing in the internet thing, and in what I understand ENTREPRENUER talks of pure business. Like organizing business, manage it, make the business grow and etc. while TECHNOPRENUER is about business using technology as a model product or the main product.
“Technopreneurship is either involved in delivering an innovative hi-tech product (e.g. Intel) or makes use of hi-tech in an innovative way to deliver its product to the consumer (e.g. eBay), or both (e.g. most pharmaceutical companies). “

http://technopreneurship.wordpress.com/2006/11/29/defining-technopreneurship/

Actually being ask by this question is kind a hard to answer, u know y? Honestly I can’t see myself as a Technoprenuer as of now, because I know in myself that I must develop my skills and learn more lessons I mean TONS of lessons to become a technoprenuer. But lately when I enrolled in this subject IT Elective – Technoprenuership, and starting attending (as required. jejeje ). Some how it gives me answers to my questions in my head. When our facilitator had his first lesson to us to me that was a door opener to a new mind set and somehow I’m inspired and and interested to be a technoprenuer. Knowing the different traits that a technoprenuer have makes me think that I may have some traits but how about the other traits? So as of now I’m in the process of gaining those other traits that I don’t have. As of the generation now, technology helps both the youth and adult make their life much easier and both the young and adult wants to know the latest trend in gadgets, machine, or in computer. And technology has a great impact in human lives or in economic side. Nowadays every business in the world uses different kind of technology to make their business more progressive. Some uses technology in their business for managing even though the owner is far from his company or even watch every employee’s moves inside the company’s building, truly technology helps so many aspects in our life. As we all see and observe technology often found in rural areas technology associate within a city. To be an employer is great because no one manage you or dictates the things that you want to do for your business and you can earn double or triple than you expect depending on the goals that you want to achieve in your business rather than being an employee in a company who’s salary is fixed and pressure is almost all the time.Being a technoprenuer is a hard thing to do I think but with the right lessons coming from the academe and application in every knowledge we gain, and experience a person could become an employer and manage his/ her own business. Going back to the question “how do you see yourself as a technoprenuer?” as off now I see myself as a fruit that is not yet ripe. Just like fruit you can a unripe fruit but it will not taste good as what you expected in a ripe ones, I can’t do big things yet now as a technoprenuer but as I learn things in school and achieve the traits of a technoprenuer in the future I may shock my friends and the people you knows me of the achievements that I attain because of the process I’ve taken. But as of now, I’m a student and all I can do is to study hard, school side and I’ll try my best to be updated to the latest trend of technology here in our country in our country or in international. And also exercising the things that I learn and may learn in school and developing the skills that I have and may have in the future as I study the course that I took up. As what our facilitator said that being a technoprenuer doesn’t mean you must have high intelligence or greater than a normal person’s intelligence. As a technoprenuer I must have an idea for a business, or a business plan that never been implemented or invented and develop it with the best resources. And I believe that IT Hub give us a stepping stone in creating the idea that we have and process it by step. For me I must do my best to search and check that the thing that I made will be the only one in the local or in the national and nurture it and mold it in the best that I can. And if the business that I have will boom I must have the innovative mind like STEVE JOBS have and hunger for new development and open the ideas. Hard working, to be the best that I can, and to do the thing I like. And be competitive like Bill Gates that is not afraid in the nature of business. And I must have the passion in all the things that I do, and be optimistic to the all possibilities that will come up and to calculatedly risk sometime. Love the thing that I do and respect all the people who help and will help me in this career of being a technoprenuer. When I was in high school we did some business thing like selling some junk foods, candy, and etc. But that was a small business. From the old me who afraid in big things or big business to a technoprenuer that will bring innovations and development in the near future. I myself feel the changes in my prospective and understand of the power of information as what Steve Jobs said in the movie “INFORMATION IS POWER” whose achievements are known and an inspiration to a lot of people world wide.

3. Would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?As I saw the “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” and how Steve Jobs build his company and made his way to success. At first I can’t imagine that he was just an ordinary college student with his buddy Steve Wozniak trying to build a small computer and Jobs became fascinated with the marketing potential of such a computer. And for that they build their own company called “Apple Computers Company”. Considering he did not graduate in college and have no background or lessons about being an entrepreneur he manage to create a company in his time and to continue to grow it in such a way that they created a great impact in the business, economy and to the world of high technology. As far as I could remember they made their first gadget called the “Blue Box” when they discovered that a single whistle from a thing that was free in a cereal can active or access calls in any country in the world without paying additional payment. Because of the goal of Steve Jobs to wipe out IBM where IBM in that time was like Roman Empire or Greece that are too big to compete in business, he struggles to the different challenges in his career and overcome it.

For me seeing his career in the movie “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” I think it is like seeing the first TECHNOPRENUER in action I mean it gives some pointers and some characteristics a technoprenuer must have. Thinking that Steve Jobs building his career, it came to my mind that he also wanted to have more income or money, and for my self I want that also. If God let me to have a business and if my business reaches the progressive state I will not rush to have more success like what Steve Jobs did. I prefer my business progress slowly but surely, and I will continue accepting new opportunities for the business. But I believe that being in the business world, if a businessman would not have a goal for its business better to sale his / her business to other. So my goal for my business is be one of the best companies where my business focuses with. I will not do what Steve Jobs did to his employees and to his responsibilities and duties in his personal life. I do not want that my personal life and business side will not have balance.Going back to the last question of assignment in this subject, “would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?” As I base the outcome of the movie in what had happened in Steve Jobs it is very clear or shall we say obvious that I will say “No, I will not follow the career path of Mr. Steve Jobs. Because I don’t want my career to suffer likes what Steve Jobs career’s outcome. I want my career would be great in way that is different to Mr. Steve Jobs. If I my career will not be great as what Steve Jobs achievements will still keep on working hard, think deeply and use the different resources that are available. To be honest when I was a child I hate business man because all they care is the money and I think it changes when the time goes by and my brain gets matured a little bit (je je je). Some of us know about Steve Jobs and his type of guy shows that an idea can be great if you will start work and create. And he is an example that even a person didn’t graduate college or didn’t have a degree can be rich, inspire others, and have a mark in the history of mankind. He is truly a technoprenuer, I saw in some sites in the internet telling that he was the father of technoprenuerhip and I believe in that, sort of. I did say No in the third question of this assignment but I will follow the positive characteristics and develop for my self the skills that Steve Jobs have. I’m inspired of what Steve Jobs positive characteristics and Technopreneurial skills. But first I must study hard and giving the best that I could in different subjects so that I will graduate in this course and have degree. Because being technoprenuer starts in the academe, because the academe develop the intellectual skills, and character. I must look in the environment and think the things that are needed the development or betterment of the lives of people.
